I had to move my old sports car, which had all four wheels frozen from sitting around the last 30 years. Hearing that the cheap dollies tend to bend over and break under laod, besides not being very easly moved. I decided since I have a plasma table and 100 ton press, to design and make my own.Worked great for winchig the car, whichonyl weighs around 2,000 pounds, up ramp and onto my trailer, for temporary storage.
Seemd like others might enjoy the easy part, of selecting casters and bolting them on, and build yourself a heavy duty dolly. Pick urethane or steel wheels as you prefer, or get both and easily switch.
Thse are made from 3/16" steel, with a welded brace on the underside, 50% thicker than the 1/8" used by many.
I used 3" steel casters from Tractor Supply, each, but I see similar 3" steel caster like mine for half the price on Ebay.
I cut square holes for carriage bolts, use a 5/16" X 3/4" Bolt. You need 16 per dolly. Go sporty with black, or stainless steel. I used grade 3 zinc and worked fine.
Bolt pattern is on 1-3/4" X 2-78" centers.
Unlike the cheapos, these don't have nuts etc sticking up the top. I added some tread material from Harbor Freight, and now also have 4 heavy duty moving dollies.
Like a wrench I sell, these are what we call plain jane tools. Raw steel, unpainted. Check the photos for my finished dolly.
The dimensions are roughly 20" long, by 10" wide, and weigh 13 pounds each, without casters.
This for a single Dolly Frame. We will combine shipping on multiple orders. Ship Fedex.
